Dear Potential New Members.
On behalf of the Women’s Panhellenic Association and the office of Campus Life, welcome to Ohio University. My name is Makenna Knight and I am the president of WPA.
WPA is the governing council to the nine National Panhellenic Conference sororities represented on our campus. The women in these Greek lettered organizations place a strong emphasis on scholarship, service, leadership, and social activities in their everyday lives.
The Panhellenic community at Ohio boasts about 1,200 women of all grade levels and majors. Each woman is an asset to our community and I am very honored to represent such an amazing group of women.
Academically we strive to be better than the general student body, and we are. Panhellenic women consistently have a higher GPA than both the all-female and all-undergraduate average.
We participate is a wide variety of community service and philanthropic activities. Not only does each chapter have specific non-profit organizations that they support, but WPA will choose a few local organizations to support each year as well.
Panhellenic women have many opportunities to grow as leaders. We encourage our members to not only get involved within their own chapter, but also in other organizations such as WPA, Rho Lambda, Order of Omega, and other non-Greek lettered organizations.
Sisterhood is one of the founding ideals of sorority life and a strong emphasis is placed on the relationships made within each chapter, as well as within the Panhellenic community and outside organizations.
It is a true sorority woman who can manage her time wisely and take advantage of all opportunities available to her at Ohio, and I hope that you will become a part of our wonderful community.
Greek Life has taken this large campus of 20,000 people and turned it into a home away from home for 1,200 women and I would love to see you become a part of this “family.”
